URS Treatment of UTUC: General Approach
• Tumor biopsy is essential since visual dx only 70% accurate
• No-touch “wireless technique” to minimize urothelial trauma
• Multiple samples taken and sent to cytology / cytopathology:
– Pre- and post-biopsy aspirate – Tumor biopsy
– Post-laser treatment
• URS determines tumor grade in 90% of cases with low false (-) rate regardless of tumor size1
• Tumor treated with Holmium +/- Nd:YAG laser
