“Cut the laser fiber tip at the start of the case”
Arguments FOR cutting the laser fiber at the start:
1. Better visualization of the fiber tip
2. Higher ablation rates vs. stripped laser fiber
3. In coated fibers the ablation rate does not decrease regardless the scissor used to cut it
– To make a coated fiber – you have to cut it!!
– Performance of Cut (coated) fiber with Mayo scissors is inferior to New or Stripped fibers for the first 3 1⁄2 mins of laser fire
